Geneva, Batavia advance
Natalie Johnson had one of those special games for Geneva in Wednesday's Rosary Regional opener.
Johnson assisted on all 3 Geneva goals and hit a the crossbar twice in a 3-1 Vikings victory.
"She's been coming on strong, starting at forward for us," Geneva coach Ryan Estabrook said. "We're definitely creating enough opportunities."
Megan Spear and Emily Hinchman scored for the Vikings (11-7-1) in the first half while Abby Schroeder scored in the second half to complete the victory.
"We have some players who are coming off injuries," Estabrook said. "It was really hot, tough playoff conditions. The playoffs is all about advancing, and we did that today."
Geneva plays Benet Academy at 4 p.m. on Friday for the regional title.
Batavia 4, Kaneland 0:ŒThe No. 6 seeded Bulldogs topped their Western Sun Conference rival Kaneland, the No. 11 seed, to advance to Friday's regional title game at Neuqua Valley against the Wildcats.
"I thought the girls played well," Kaneland coach Scott Parillo said. "Unfortunately, we had a few starters injured, and (Batavia) just wore us down. They are a very good team."
Kaneland, which won only 3 games last year, capped this season 8-14-1.
"I'm very proud of the girls," Parillo said. "Every girl on this team worked hard. I am not disappointed."
