Round Lake Park woman admits burglary, theft

A Round Lake Park woman was placed on 30 months' probation Thursday after she pleaded guilty to two felonies.

Amanda Moa was also ordered to spend 90 days in the Lake County jail.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Ken LaRue said Moa, of 95 Clifton Drive, was first arrested Feb. 16. A resident of the 100 block of N. Channel Drive in Round Lake Beach called police about 6:30 a.m. when he saw Moa inside his sport utility vehicle parked outside his house.

Moa ran away when the man shouted at her, but police found her a short time later in a nearby restaurant.

She was charged with burglary and released on bond.

About 1 p.m. March 26, an 8-year-old boy saw Moa carrying a television set from his house on the 24000 block of West Route 134 in Round Lake.

The boy told his baby sitter, who gave police a description of the car Moa was driving.

She was arrested a short distance away and charged with residential burglary.

LaRue said Moa told police she committed both crimes in an effort to raise money for drugs.

On Thursday, Moa pleaded guilty to burglary for the Feb. 16 arrest, and LaRue agreed to drop the residential burglary charge from March 26 in exchange for Moa's guilty plea to theft.

Circuit Judge George Bridges also ordered Moa to complete a drug treatment program and perform 100 hours of community service.
