Briefs: Footbridge closing
The Indiana Street footbridge in St. Charles will be closed for painting and maintenance this week. City officials ask pedestrians to use the Prairie Street Bridge or the Main Street Bridge to cross the river between Tuesday and Friday.
Geneva chamber golf
The Gamblers Run Golf Outing will be Monday at Eagle Brook Country Club, 2200 Fargo Blvd., Geneva. Lunch is at 11 a.m., golf starts at 11:30 a.m., dinner is at 5 p.m. Cost is $169 per player, $50 for dinner only. Proceeds support the Geneva Chamber of Commerce. Summer reading clubs
The Geneva Public Library, 127 James St., will start registration for its summer reading program, "Get in the Game: READ!" Wednesday. There are four reading clubs for children. Register will be in the youth services department. Each child must have a valid Geneva Public Library card. Children can earn prizes June 11 through Aug. 4.
Hot dogs, hot rods:
The third annual Hot Dogs & Hot Rods show is planned for 4 p.m. Friday at Autopractor, 1820 Production Drive, St. Charles. The free event includes collector cars, food and drinks. For more information or to enter a car, call (630) 444-1414.
The Lettermen to perform
Sixties-era pop stars The Lettermen will perform Saturday at the Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles. The group, known for its harmonies and arrangements, won popularity with their first single, "The Way You Look Tonight," in 1961, followed by the Top 10 hit "When I Fall in Love" in 1962. You can get a massage
The massage therapy program at Elgin Community College will offer student-run massage clinics open to the public throughout the summer. Clinics will be held on Saturdays in June and July in the massage therapy clinic, Room 214 of the Advanced Technology Center on the main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The fee is $35 for an hourlong session. Massage therapy clinic III is a course in the final semester of student training designed to provide students with the opportunity to run their own clinical business with ECC supervisory staff on site. Students serve as both office managers and therapists to prepare themselves to enter their chosen profession after passing the national certification exam and obtaining a state of Illinois license. Performers wanted
Vocal soloists are sought to perform in Pride of the Fox RiverFest's annual Idol Search singing contest June 7 to 8 in St. Charles. There are varying age and gender contest categories, with ages 6 to 17 to perform June 6 and ages 18 and older to perform June 7. Daily registration starts at 12:30 p.m. with performances to begin at 1 p.m. at the Harris Riverside Stage at First Avenue and East Main Street.
