Recycle tires, motor oil at one-time only program
A residential tire and oil recycling event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 13 at the Lake County Fairgrounds. Enter the Route 45 entrance.
The event is organized by the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and Lake County Farm Bureau.
Passenger car, truck and tractor tires will be accepted. The event is free, but $2 donations will be accepted for agricultural education.
The program is only open to Illinois residents, who may only participate in the program one time. Names will be checked against a list from previous events. Those who have more than 200 tires or would like more information may call the Lake County Farm Bureau at (847) 223-6506.
No tire dealers, commercial trucking or busing companies may participate. No large industrial tires will be accepted. Tires may be on or off rims.
Used motor oil will also be accepted for recycling. Farm motor oil in barrels will be pumped out on site. All containers will be drained and returned to their owners. No antifreeze or other hazardous materials will be accepted. The used oil should be free of water, gas, antifreeze or other contaminants.
