Truck crash spills diesel fuel on Route 53
Palatine firefighters and Illinois State Police responded to a four-vehicle crash on Route 53 Friday morning that resulted in a diesel fuel spill and several hours of lane closures.
Emergency workers responded to the call of a collision on northbound Route 53 at Palatine Road at 10:03 a.m.
The four vehicles involved were a jackknifed semitrailer truck carrying milk, a pickup truck, dump truck and a car.
Three drivers were transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights for injuries that were considered non-life-threatening, Palatine Fire Battalion Chief Randy Friese said.
The injured were the 30-year-old male driver of the semi, the 41-year-old male driver of the dump truck and the 48-year-old female driver of the car.
Hazardous materials crews worked to clean up the road after 150 gallons of diesel fuel from the semi and dump truck leaked. About 50 gallons reached the storm sewer, and water authorities were notified, Friese said.
Traffic was narrowed to one lane for two to three hours after the crash.
Illinois State Police Friday released no information about the circumstances of the crash, which remains under investigation.
