Man arrested for Elmhurst College threat

A 34-year-old Elmhurst College student was arrested on suspicion of making a threatening phone call to college officials last week.

Cedric A. Jordan, who is also an Elmhurst resident, called the school May 6 and threatened "armed violence at an upcoming college event," police said.

The call was followed up by more threats via the college's e-mail system the next day. Jordan was picked up by police several hours after the written messages were discovered, Elmhurst Police Chief Steve Neubauer said.

"You walk out in front of whatever building you're in right now and ask a hundred people if it's a good idea to go to the airport and start telling people you have a bomb, and they'll all tell you it's not," Neubauer said. "People have to understand in this day and age that this type of unacceptable behavior will be dealt with seriously."

Neubauer said Jordan was hospitalized in a "secure medical facility" after his arrest. He cited federal patient confidentiality laws as the reason for not saying why Jordan was hospitalized but added that the suspect was not physically injured during the arrest process.

Once released, police said, Jordan will be charged with a felony charge of making a terrorist threat. His bond has been set at $200,000.
