We have to realize we're in a war

This is an open letter to Rich Jacobson of Palatine. His letter appeared April 12.

Mr. Jacobson, we're in a war!

After reading your letter, I am concerned about where your recent information comes from, although I could give an informed guess.

You repeat the tired old mantra's about bin Laden and WMDs.

It's a shame you don't remember or mention the beginnings of this war. This country was not the only country that thought Iraq had WMDs. In fact, the allies that supported us and still support us were sure their information was correct, even Russia.

Our country is the policeman for the world. We have military bases in Japan, Germany, Korea, England and estern Europe. Our servicemen and women are there to keep peace and to keep us safe.

The potshots you take at McCain especially are uninformed. The "surge" has helped, but in war, the boundaries keep moving.

Armchair warriors and politicians should read history books and ask people familiar with information instead of listening to biased media or reading magazines and blogs. It would make you smarter and better informed.
