Burn complaints ignored by city
How is it that we just gave the St. Charles Fire Department a $300,000 raise to help service Wayne and St. Charles near Wayne, yet when those of us who live there call 911, the fire department and the police department for a complaint of burning, no one responds?
The smoke was so bad traffic was stopping in the street because the drivers could not see. Is this not a hazard? The fire (leaves and yard waste) was left unattended while the homeowner ran errands. No hose or other means to extinguish the fire was nearby. The fire was burning on the easement right next to the road and many neighbors were complaining. However, when I spoke to city administrators, I was rerouted to other departments. Then, no one showed up. This happened two days in a row.
Several of the neighbors have health issues; i.e. asthma, recent heart surgery, pregnancy, and chemical sensitivities. Even with the homes shut up and windows closed, they were filled with smoke and smell. I was told to call 911. They never came, two days in a row.
