Actors, musicians needed for play
The Glen Ellyn Historical Society will hold auditions for the 1890s melodrama "Oh Goodness," or "A Villain's Work in Vain," at 7 p.m. today at the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main St.
A variety of roles are available for both actors and musicians. Appointments are required. Performances will be at 1:30 and 3 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Tavern Days Celebration.

Historian to discuss the small-town life
Illinois historian, author and retired university professor John E. Hallwas will present the May Tea Time Tour lecture, "Small-Town Heritage: Life in Illinois Communities, 1870-1920," at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Elmhurst Historical Museum, 120 E. Park Ave.
Hallwas will discuss what life was like from just after the Civil War until after World War I. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.

Library to screen 'The Painted Veil'
As part of the "Based on the Book" series, the Bensenville Community Public Library and the village of Bensenville will present a screening of "The Painted Veil" at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Bensenville Theatre, 13 S. Center St.
The film is based on the novel of the same name by W. Somerset Maugham. It is a love story about a young English couple who marry in the 1920s and relocate to Hong Kong.

Park district plans charity garage sale
The Medinah Park District's first Junk in the Trunk charity garage sale will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Thorndale Recreation Center, 22W130 Thorndale Ave. A variety of household goods and other items will be available. Concessions will be sold. For details, call (630) 893-2560.
3-Day team holds fundraiser Sunday
The Chicago Breast Cancer 3-Day Crew's roller skating fundraiser will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lombard Roller Rink, 201 W. 22nd St. Tickets cost $15, skate rental is $3 and locker rental is 50 cents.
