Did cost go down for drivers ed?

In last Sunday's lead article your paper discussed how the high cost of gas is beginning to hurt school budgets; I can only imagine. Whether you're talking about running a fleet of buses or just the cost of mowing the lawns, gasoline has to be a sizable expense for them. School budget's seem to always be a problem, and schools seem to always be looking for ways to balance them. However this question about gas really confused me. A couple of years ago I paid about $400 for my grandson for drivers ed at Batavia High School. Then the other day a neighbor told me he received an e-mail from the school offering his son drivers ed for $250.

How in this day of increasing costs, tight school budgets and soaring gas prices does a high school find the money to cut the cost of a program almost in half? If BHS knows a secret for saving money I'm sure it's a secret the rest of us would like to know.
