Briefs: Gas lines relocated
The smell of gas may be detected today while workers relocate gas lines between Braemar Parkway and Annandale Drive as part of the Algonquin Road extension project, which aims to widen the road from two lanes to four. The entire road is expected to reopen on Thanksgiving.
Arts showcase at Neubert
Neubert Elementary School will host a performing arts showcase and education fair from 2:30 to 7 p.m. today. Students from all grade levels will display class projects ranging from Egyptian artifacts to animals and their habitats. Students also will sing, dance, play instruments and do stand-up comedy from 5 to 6 p.m. The events are open to the public. Call (847) 658-2540.
School hosts literacy night
Eastview Elementary School will host Literacy Night at 6:30 p.m. today for parents and students. Kids will get to watch children's singer-songwriter Thaddeus Rex perform songs about reading. Parents can attend a series of workshops explaining how children are taught reading and writing skills at Eastview. Topics that will be discussed include: narrative writing, preparing your kids for the ISAT, expanding vocabulary, using Eastview's Web site and getting your kid ready for first grade. Preschool hosts blood drive
The deLacey Family Education Center and Heartland Blood Centers are hosting a blood drive from 3 to 7 p.m. today. The drive will be held in the deLacey gym, 50 Cleveland Ave., Carpentersville.
