Hanover Park mans gets 6 years for 7th DUI

A Hanover Park man has been sentenced to the minimum six years in prison after pleading guilty to his seventh DUI.

Steve Frost, 53, of 6754 Pinetree St., also received a one-year prison sentence to be served concurrently for driving with a revoked or suspended license.

Cook County Judge John Scotillo accepted the plea deal at a hearing last week in Rolling Meadows.

Frost faced six to 30 years in prison because the offense of a sixth or subsequent DUI conviction became classified a Class X felony in 2006.

Frost, who has remained in custody on $250,000 bond, was arrested March 23 after authorities said he was seen traveling 10 mph under the speed limit and driving into oncoming traffic near Barrington Road and Maple Avenue in Hanover Park.

When police pulled him over, prosecutors said, they detected a strong odor of alcohol. Frost admitted to having a beer, they said.

His blood-alcohol level was 0.155, nearly twice the legal limit, authorities said.

Frost's six prior DUI convictions spanned two decades. His first, in 1978, resulted in a revoked license, said Beth Kaufman, spokeswoman for secretary of state's office.

His most recent DUI conviction occurred in 1998. Records show Frost received a three-year prison term, the maximum sentence allowed under the law at that time.
