U-46 school locked down

Elgin Area School District U-46 officials briefly locked down Channing Elementary School Thursday afternoon after reports of shots fired in the area, U-46 spokesman Tony Sanders said. The east side Elgin school already had been dismissed for the day, but some students remained on the playground. No one was reported injured and it was unclear whether shots actually had been fired. Elgin police could not immediately be reached for comment.
