STC lacrosse reaches quarterfinals

The St. Charles boys lacrosse team defeated St. Viator 14-3 Thursday to earn the right to play at Glenbrook North in today's state quarterfinal.

After a 2-2 tie at the end of the first quarter, St. Charles exploded for 7 unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a 9-2 halftime lead.

The St. Charles seniors played outstanding in their final home game. Sean Brogan (2 goals, 3 assists), Cam Caruso (2 goals, 2 assists), Zach McCullough (1 goal) and Charlie Smunt (1 goal) all played major roles on offense.

Caruso also won 80 percent of his face-offs.

On defense, seniors Madden Titus and Tyler Hines, along with sophomore Dom Imbordino, played a near flawless final three quarters resulting in goalie Sean McGushin only having to face 8 shots.

Sophomores Chad Ellis (4 goals, 2 assists) and Ben Dvorak (3 goals, 2 assists) led the offense, with junior Paul DeBord chipping in a goal.

St. Charles plays 15-1 Glenbrook North at 1 p.m. today in the state quarterfinals. St. Charles is 12-4 and seeded seventh.

Football

Reed to UW-Platteville: Geneva senior lineman Taylor Reed will attend the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and play football next year.

Reed was selected first team all-conference in his senior year. He helped the Vikings to a combined record of 22-3 and two conference championships. He is the son of Duane and Sue Reed and plans to major in physical education.

UW-Platteville is a school of 7,000 students situated in the southwest corner of Wisconsin, within 30 miles of both the Iowa and Illinois borders. The Pioneers play their home games in the newly-renovated 10,000-seat Ralph E. Davis Pioneer Stadium.

McCullough to Augustana:ŒSt. Charles North senior Zach McCullough has decided to play football next August at Augustana College.

The Upstate Eight Academic All-Conference cornerback will switch to the other side of the ball and play wide receiver in the Vikings' newly installed spread offense.

Augustana has won 21 CCIW championships and 4 national championships.

McCullough plans on majoring in business.
