Algonquin man charged in attack on teen

An 18-year-old Algonquin man was behind bars at the McHenry County jail Wednesday, facing a felony charge alleging he beat a 15-year-old boy after luring him to a secluded area.

Michael S. Kasper, 206 Hillcrest, is charged with aggravated battery stemming from the incident police said was the result on an ongoing dispute between Kapser and the victim.

"The person he battered is someone he knows and had a beef with," Algonquin Deputy Police Chief Steve Kuzynowski said. "This is the way he dealt with it."

The incident occurred Tuesday, police said, after the 15-year-old was lured to a wooded area near Route 31 and Arrowhead Drive. Once there, court documents state, a masked Kasper attacked the victim, repeatedly punching him in the head and body.

Police also are searching for a second man involved in the beating. The victim, Kuzynowski said, was not injured seriously.

Kasper, who faces two to five years in prison if found guilty, was arrested about 8 p.m. Tuesday and spent the night in the county jail. He remained there Wednesday, unable to post a $4,000 bond.
