State issuing trail grants
Illinois is to receive nearly $950,000 to improve trails in counties across the state from the federal Recreational Trails Program. The Illinois Greenways and Trails Council recommended the sites that will receive grants. The money can be used to acquire land, construct and rehabilitate trails and for educational programs. Trails in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, Shelby, Stephenson and Will counties will receive funding. Gov. Rod Blagojevich said the money will improve recreational opportunities for outdoors enthusiasts.
