STC upsets Glenbrook N. to reach semis

The seventh-seeded St. Charles boys lacrosse team advanced to the state Final Four for the second year in a row with an 8-7 win over No. 2 seed Glenbrook North (18-2) on Saturday.

St. Charles got on the board first with a nice assist from Paul DeBord (2 assists) to Sean Brogan (3 goals). Chad Ellis (3 goals, 1 assist) put St. Charles up 6-3 before the half with a nice twisting move in front of the goal. Cam Caruso (1 goal, 1 assist) and Ben Dvorak (1 goal, 1 assist) completed the scoring for St. Charles.

St. Charles goalie Sean McGushin stepped up big for St. Charles. He had 14 saves on the day and held Glenbrook North, a team averaging 13 goals per game, to 7 goals. The defense stepped up in the fourth quarter and the entire St. Charles team rushed the field after Zach McCullough came up with a loose ball in front of the St. Charles goal with 8 seconds to go in the game.

St. Charles will meet defending state champion New Trier on Wednesday night in the semifinal game. New Trier is the same team that kept St. Charles from the state championship a year ago.
