Waukegan man stabbed to death in Round Lake Beach
Round Lake Beach police are investigating a stabbing that took the life of a 36-year-old Waukegan man early Wednesday morning, officials said.
Round Lake Beach Deputy Chief Rich Chiarello said police received a call from a resident in the 1500 block of Kildeer Drive at 1:01 a.m. advising there was a stabbing victim on the front porch.
When police arrived, they discovered Cydric Jones nearly unconscious on the porch of the house, and immediately questioned him while trying to stop the bleeding, Chiarello said.
"We took a brief statement from the victim before he lost consciousness," he said. "He did not say who stabbed him before falling unconscious."
A kitchen knife believed to be the murder weapon was recovered on the scene, Chiarello said.
Jones was staying with friends in Round Lake Beach for the evening. He was on his way to that house but stopped at the residence on Kildeer.
"He picked an arbitrary house knowing he could never make it back to where he was staying," Chiarello said. "We do not believe this was a random act. We think the victim knew his attacker. But, we are looking into all possibilities."
Chiarello said paramedics transported Jones to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he died at 2:01 a.m., Chiarello said.
Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said the victim died from a single stab wound to the chest. He also said there were no signs the victim tried to defend himself during the attack.
He said medical officials reported multiple stab wounds early Wednesday, but the number of stab wounds was changed after the autopsy.
Chiarello said the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force has been contacted and are assisting Round Lake Beach police in the investigation.
Chiarello is also asking anyone with information to call the Round Lake Beach Police Department at (847) 546-2127.
