Harrington leads list of Elgin Hall nominees

Three candidates have been added to the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame Foundation's ballot, making them eligible for induction in the class of 2008.

Following is a short biography of each new candidate.

 Sean Harrington -- Nominated for basketball. Harrington played basketball on the Elgin High varsity from 1996-1999, during which time he set 62 school records, including becoming the all-time leading scorer with 2,119 points. Harrington was named All-State by the Associated Press, the Chicago Sun-Times (junior and senior years), Champaign News-Gazette, and the Chicago Tribune. In addition, he was All-Upstate Eight Conference three times, including UEC Player of the Year twice, while contributing to three regional titles, one sectional title and one super-sectional title. He then played at the University of Illinois for four years from 2000-2003. In that time, Harrington played on two Big Ten Conference regular season and one Big Ten Conference Tournament championship teams. Twice he led the Big Ten in 3-point shooting percentage. He made 191 3-pointers in his career, scored 750 points and amassed 222 assists. He equaled a school record by playing in 11 NCAA Tournament games and was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten Conference.

 Gary Bohlin -- Nominated for rowing. Bohlin attended Oregon State University and was named outstanding freshman oarsman. During the 1976-77 season he was the only sophomore rowing on the Varsity 8 team. In Preseason Nationals 2000 meter competition in San Diego, his team finished third. In the Varsity 8 Intercollegiate Rowing Championships Premier Race, Bohlin's team finished fifth. While a member of the four-man varsity crew in his junior season, Bohlin's crew won the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship. During the summer of 1978, Bohlin made the lightweight Vespers Team. which won the United States Trials and the 2000 Meter Amateur National Rowing Championship. After training in Oslo, Norway, Bohlin represented the U.S. in the World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark. As a senior, he was named Outstanding Senior Oarsman, became a member of the Order of the Orange Oar (3-time letterman), and was named to the All-Pac-10 rowing team. He has a boat named in his honor at OSU, one of four individuals to have such an honor.

 Blaine Royer -- Nominated for basketball. The Larkin graduate earned All-Upstate Eight Conference and All-Area honors from The Courier News and Chicago Tribune as a senior while also being named co-MVP and serving as co-captain for the Royals in 1965. While at Illinois State University, Royer was three-time letterman and earned Division II All-America honors as a senior after averaging 20.1 points per game. Was inducted into the ISU Hall of Fame as an individual and team member and ranks 10th on the all-time single-season scoring list. Became the second ISU player to be drafted by the NBA when chosen by San Diego.
