Repairs to keep Carol Stream water park closed for Memorial Day weekend

The traditional start of the summer outdoor pool season will come later than usual at the Carol Stream Park District's Coral Cove Water Park.

Repairs to two major leaks will postpone opening day until at least June 7 for the outdoor water park, located at 849 Lies Road.

The first leak was discovered and repaired in April, but rainy weather held up the repair work. When the pool was filled in early May, parks officials noticed the water heater wasn't working properly and had to be repaired.

Once the heater was working and the circulation pumps were started this past week, the water levels in the pool dropped, indicating there was another leak somewhere.

In the meantime, the park district has worked out temporary arrangements with both the Bartlett and Glendale Heights aquatic centers to allow Carol Stream residents at the local pools' resident rates.

Brian Romes, the park district's superintendent for recreation, said his staff has been busy notifying residents, summer water park employees and season pass holders of the delay in the water park's opening day.

"We want our residents and our summer pool staff to know that we are working on the problem as fast as we can," Romes said. "We have about 500 pass holders and 120 water park staff, so we're making a lot of phone calls this week."

If there is a change in the planned June 7 opening date, Romes said the park district will follow up with more phone calls and updates on its Web site, www.csparks.org.
