Rail deal allies not political haymakers
I write to oppose the opinion expressed in "Our View" under "Friendly as a Firing Squad." Brave, trusty Jeff Berman standing against the hostile forces. This is NOT the case.
Obviously your reporter has never been involved in the adventure of crossing Barrington in the rush hour, when poor hapless souls vie for inches of space with commuter trains. It can take 2 hours to go to Jewel for a pint of milk!
Add to this CN's miles of goods trains, which equals chaos. Nobody and nothing has been explained about what benefits the community and its citizens. Then I must remind you of the disaster when CN decided to repair the rail crossing on Route 14; there were hours of delays for road traffic. A forerunner of delays when miles-long goods trains traverse two of Barrington's rail crossings at once. At least 20 trains per day and many miles long. I want true statistics before we go any further.
Our Congresswoman Melissa Bean and Sens. Durbin and Obama, along with many others, have been staunch allies in our fight against CN's tyrannical attitude, NOT making political hay.
Why are you now withdrawing your support, which you had given in the past.
