Memorial service set for longtime Carmel coach

A longtime Carmel Catholic High School coach and teacher who died last week will be remembered during a memorial service Friday.

The gathering to honor Joseph P. Scordino, 61, of Gurnee, will begin at 5 p.m. at the school's Salvi Arena, 1 Carmel Parkway, Mundelein.

A memorial service will begin at 7 p.m. at the school.

Scordino, who suffered from emphysema and diabetes, was found dead in his home Friday after he didn't show up for work.

He recently stepped down as the school's wrestling coach because of his health, but had continued teaching business classes.

Scordino's survivors include: a brother, Lawrence; an uncle, Anthony; and several cousins.

Instead of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Carmel High School athletic department or the American Diabetes Association, 30 N. Michigan Ave. Suite 2015 Chicago, IL, 60602.
