Geneva resident plans to run for 5th Ward seat

A Geneva insurance agent plans to run for the city's 5th Ward seat this year.

Mark Peterson announced his intention to run for the seat currently held by Paul DesCoteaux on Thursday.

"I don't really have any huge ax to grind," Peterson said. "It's more of a calling."

He said he was interested in supporting local businesses and utilizing the land Geneva has left for development.

"It really is a matter of staying the course on many of the issues," he said.

An insurance agent with his business based in North Aurora, Peterson recently volunteered on Peter Roskam's Congressional campaign and Dan Rutherford's Secretary of State campaign.

He is active in St. Peter Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

DesCoteaux did not return a call Thursday.

The 5th Ward covers the southeast corner of the town. On the west side of the river, it covers east of Western Avenue and south of South Street, with part of the downtown. On the east side of the river, it covers everything south of State Street with a small portion south of Woodward Avenue and west of East Side Drive.
