Mounties? In the suburbs?
FRANKFORT -- Police in the Will County community of Frankfort are considering a new community relations project -- mounting some of their officers on horseback.
Officer Jennifer Keogh, who has some experience with horses, suggested the idea and Chief Robert Piscia now says he sees mounted police as a unique way for police to interact with the public and one that fits with the village's 1890s appearance.
The village board agreed to spend $3,500 on the mounted patrol, and the money will go for training and equipment.
Frankfort police aren't buying horses. Instead, Keogh found a local stable owner willing to donate the use of horses for the project.
