Man dies in fall from police van

Chicago police say a handcuffed man who was attempting to escape from custody has died of head injuries he suffered when he fell out of a stationary police van after his arrest.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, 25-year-old Antonio Dampier died Saturday of blunt head trauma several hours after he fell from the van.

Chicago Police Officer Marcel Bright says Dampier was arrested early Saturday on domestic disturbance charges after he arrived on the doorstep of a woman who had an order of protection against him.
