Mustaches do the trick for Wolves
Scruffy playoff beards are a tradition in hockey, but it wasn't working for the Chicago Wolves.
So following their loss in Game 5 to the Rockford IceHogs and to change their luck after 3 straight defeats, Wolves winger Colin Stuart suggested playoff mustaches.
The Wolves won Game 6 on Sunday in Rockford and they all will be sporting the same look tonight in Game 7 of their Calder Cup playoff series at the Allstate Arena.
"We needed a change," captain Darren Haydar said. "It seemed to work, so we're going to run with it.
"About three-quarters of the guys had beards for the first five games and just trimmed it to a mustache."
Needless to say, some look better than others.
"I think Brett Sterling's is the worst," Haydar said. "He looks kind of creepy."
Wolves coach John Anderson thinks his thick mustache is the best.
"The whole team looks like a bunch of '70s porn stars out there," Anderson joked. "But it's kind of fun. It was a good little thing that brought us back together and took the pressure off us so we weren't just thinking about the game itself. We rallied around it."
