Woman robbed at gunpoint in downtown Arlington Heights

A woman convinced a man with a gun to take her cash instead of her purse and everything in it Tuesday night in downtown Arlington Heights, police said.

The 52-year-old Kildeer woman was leaving a restaurant in the first block of West Davis Street with a friend when two men -- one with a silver-plated handgun -- approached her and demanded her purse at around 11:30 p.m., said Cmdr. Ken Galinski of the Arlington Heights Police Department.

"She talked them out of taking the purse and just gave them the cash," he said.

The woman handed over about $300 in cash and was walking away when one of the men yelled back to her that they also wanted her cell phone, which she also handed over, Galinski said.

Then the woman drove to the police station to report the crime.

Police are not sure how the two men fled the scene.

Authorities are looking for the men. One is described as being about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and about 200 pounds and was wearing baggy clothing. The second man is about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and 185 pounds and was wearing a green, puffy coat, Galinski said.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the Arlington Heights police at (847) 368-5300.
