School, farm to hold organic plant sale
Prairie Crossing Charter School PSO and the Learning Farm invite the public to their third annual organic plant sale, "Growing with Nature," from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the new shops at Station Square in Prairie Crossing, 977 Harris Road, Grayslake.
Organically grown flower, vegetable and herb garden starts will be for sale. Many of the plants were grown by the students of the Charter School as part of their curriculum and seventh-grade service learning project.
The Learning Farm is a non-profit program that seeks to inspire children and adults to understand the importance of healthy food, land and community through work and learning on an organic farm. The Prairie Crossing Charter School is a public charter school where students learn through an integrated, environmental curriculum.
The event will feature free gardening classes, free crafts and activities for the kids, fresh organic produce, organic gardening products, locally made decor and a raffle. Participating vendors include Arts in Garden, EarthWild Gardens, Natures Way Organics, Montessori School of Lake Forest Adolescent Program, Prairie Croissant Café and Sandhill Organics. Proceeds from the sale will be shared between the Learning Farm and the Charter School PSO for school-sponsored activities.
