Police investigating whether grandson killed Round Lake Beach woman

Police are interviewing a person in connection with a fire that might have killed an elderly Round Lake Beach woman.

Round Lake Deputy Chief Rich Chiarello said authorities received a call from an Antioch resident who said his son killed his grandmother at 1320 Park Ave. in Round Lake Beach.

Round Lake Beach officers went to the residence and forced entry to the home, where the elderly woman was discovered burned.

Chiarello said officers were also told by the caller the person had left Antioch and was on the run. Chiarello said the Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network was used, and a short time later, Antioch police located the person's vehicle, and the person and was taken into custody.

The person is now at the Round Lake Beach Police Department being questioned.

Police have not released the name of the person of interest or the victim.

Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said it is unclear when the fire was set and how the victim died.

Round Lake Beach Chief Doug Larssen has asked for assistance in the investigation from the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force. They are working with the Round Lake Beach investigation unit. The Lake County coroner's office is also investigating.

"I'd like to pass on my deepest sympathy to the family," Chiarello said. "I'd also like to say publicly the immediate response by the Antioch Police department is greatly appreciated."
