SEDOL Foundation dinner shows heart of gold
The SEDOL Foundation, which works with the Special Education District of Lake County to provide opportunities to children with special needs and their families, recently raised $140,000 at its 17th Annual Heart of Gold dinner dance and reception at Concorde Banquets in Kildeer.
The event, which drew 340 attendees, raised funds to support the SEDOL Foundation's programs, which work to enhance public awareness and enrich the educational, vocational and social opportunities for special-needs children in Lake County.
One of the highlights of the evening was the SEDOL Speed Auction, during which the organization raised $57,000 in less than 10 minutes to support its "Send-a-Kid-to-Kamp" program.
The evening's Heart of Gold Award recipients, Lakeside Transportation and Medline Industries, Inc., were recognized for their commitment to the SEDOL Foundation.
The event was organized by event chairwoman Dina Epperson of Libertyville, auction chairwoman Joan Lichter of Libertyville, and committee volunteers.
Among the unduplicated programs and services provided to Lake County residents by the SEDOL Foundation are adaptive equipment, horticulture and art therapy, Send-a-Kid-to-Kamp, music appreciation, scholarships, job training and assistance, sibling support group, summer outreach and sign language classes.
