Furniture dispute turns ugly for 2 Elgin men
An argument over how to best move furniture left two Elgin men with stab wounds, police said.
Police were sent to the warehouse of La-Z-Boy Furniture, 422 Randall Road, at 11 a.m. Saturday where a 44-year-old man had a 2-inch cut under his eye and a 41-year-old man was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin with a cut on his abdomen.
He had left a trail of blood across the warehouse floor, police said.
Elgin police stopped the second man's car at Randall and Weld roads and helped take him to the hospital.
South Elgin police said it had appeared that the two men -- both temporary workers -- had stabbed each other with either one or two box cutters.
One of the men told police the stabbings erupted over an argument the two were having over how they felt furniture should be moved.
Both men were working there for a temporary labor agency in Elgin.
South Elgin police said the other man also was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital, but it appeared the wounds to both were superficial.
"So far, no charges have been filed," South Elgin Police Chief Christopher Merritt said Monday. "Neither victim has filed a complaint against the other."
