Carpentersville man charged with drug-selling

A traffic stop led to the search of a home Wednesday evening in Carpentersville where police say cocaine and marijuana were found.

Alex Chernenko, 32, of 1358 Brookdale Drive, was charged in court Thursday with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, according to a police report.

Chernenko was stopped by police in the afternoon a block away from home for a traffic offense and information developed from the stop led police to secure a search warrant of his residence, police said.

At 6 p.m. Wednesday, members of the gang and drug units began their search on Brookdale Drive.

Eighteen plastic bags containing 21.5 grams of cocaine were found in the pocket of a man's coat in the closet of the master bedroom, police said.

In the other coat pocket $4,700 in cash was found, police said.

Also found in the closet were four plastic bags with 14.3 grams of marijuana, a scale with cocaine residue on the top and numerous marijuana smoking pipes, police said.

The marijuana was sent to the crime lab for testing and it might result in further charges against Chernenko.

He was unable to post a $15,000 bond and was taken to the Kane County jail to await a June 6 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.
