Judge gives Blagojevich mixed ruling on health care expansion
SPRINGFIELD -- A Cook County judge has blocked part of Governor Rod Blagojevich's health-care expansion but upheld another part.
The mixed ruling came Tuesday from Cook County Judge James Epstein in a lawsuit filed by business leaders and a suburban Chicago lawyer.
The judge says there were enough questions about Blagojevich's expansion of the FamilyCare program that it should be temporarily blocked from being implemented.
But Epstein says complaints about expansion of a breast and cervical cancer screening program don't warrant the same result.
The health care expansion has been a sore spot for lawmakers in recent months and has led to at least one other lawsuit over the governor's powers.
