Adopt-A-Pet merits better rescue credit

As a longtime volunteer for Adopt-A-Pet, I just wanted to thank you for publishing Sue Ter Maat's article on the downstate shelters, the transport group and the receiving shelters up here in the Chicago metropolitan area.

The article gives people a good idea of the intense effort made to save the lives of and re-home these dogs and cats.

Unfortunately, not so much for the cats as there are so many more of them than there are homes.

I want to say, however, that I was, along with a large group of committed volunteers, disappointed that Adopt-A-Pet wasn't mentioned in the list of rescue groups published everyday of this three-part series.

Our president, Randy Barinholtz, has consistently accepted animals almost every week for the past two-three years from southern Illinois .

Our dutiful group of volunteers works tirelessly to ensure that these deserving animals are placed in permanent, safe and loving homes.

Everyone who is involved in this effort deserves to be acknowledged for their dedication and commitment to helping these creatures have a better life.

Kudos to Adopt-A-Pet and the other shelters that help out regularly and were not mentioned in the article.
