Border wall is not like the Berlin Wall
While James Jones of Wheaton (Fence Post, April 14) has written an interesting and provocative letter regarding the proposed "wall" and its comparison to the wall in Germany, his reasoning is fatally flawed.
The wall built by the Russians was meant to keep citizens from escaping -- it was essentially a prison wall. In contrast, the southwestern U.S. "wall" is meant to keep undesirables out.
I do not mean to suggest that all, or even most, of the illegal entrants are undesirable, only that they are breaking our laws.
Mexico does not tolerate illegal entrants to its country, nor should we.
As always, legal immigrants are welcome to come to the U.S.
