Barrington has full, diverse summer lineup

Barrington residents wanting to make sure they don't miss any local events this summer can now start planning their schedules.

On Monday, village trustees gave final approval for several summertime events, including the weekly farmers market and Fourth of July festivities.

"There are a lot of good things happening this summer," said Village President Karen Darch.

This year's farmers market will again be held Thursdays from 2 to 7 p.m. at the corner of Park Avenue and Cook Street.

With more than 20 vendors, the farmers market features an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, eggs, flowers, pastries, cheeses and seafood.

Ready-to-eat meals, including paella, barbecue and homemade pizzas, will also be available.

The market will be open between June 19 and Oct. 23.

Looking ahead to warmer times, trustees gave final approval for this year's Independence Day celebration, which kicks off July 2.

The annual four-day event includes live entertainment, children's activities, alumni gatherings, a fun run, parade and fireworks.

Following July 4, the festivities continue with the annual Uncork Barrington and Barrington Brew Fest.

The fourth annual wine-tasting event, Uncork Barrington, is scheduled for July 11.

The following evening, the fifth annual Barrington Brew Fest is planned. The event features beers from more than 20 regional brewers and microbreweries.

A new event this year, the Barrington Community Talent Show, is scheduled for July 7 and 8. The show is open to both individuals and groups of any age and will feature a variety of acts including singing, dancing, skits, musical instruments, magic, gymnastics, pet tricks, juggling and stand-up comedy.

Trustees also gave approval for several running events in the coming months, including the annual Run for the Arts, Rotary Trick or Treat Trot and Dash to Cure Diabetes.
