Make Earth Hour an everyday thing

Let me say that the concept of Earth Hour was well intended and hopefully it was be supported all over the world.

The idea was for major cities all over the globe to shut off lights in certain buildings to make clear the need for energy conservation and the reduction of sources to supply those energies.

The reality of the situation is for all of us to take an active role and take this concept a step further.

It's really quite simple. Turn off nonessential lighting including your computers at home and at work when not in use, turn down your thermostats and if it's cold, put on a sweater.

During the summer months, be judicious as to how and when you use your air conditioning, use your blinds and window covers to keep the sunlight at a minimum and use your car AC only when absolutely necessary. Now, doesn't this make sense?

For those who are too young or do not recall, we had an energy crisis in the late '70s and early '80s.

The same principles apply now with more vigor. This is a time for all Americans to do what is right for the whole of the nation and the world while putting the All-About-Me sentiment of our current culture into mothballs.
