Memorial Walk is Saturday in Elgin

The Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice and Provena Northern Illinois Region Memorial Walk will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Bluff City Cemetery, 945 Bluff City Blvd., Elgin.

Parents, grandparents and other family members and loved ones who have experienced the loss of baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death all may attend.

The event aims to help walkers find comfort among people who understand their loss and to celebrate the memory of their children. Parents are encouraged to bring photos or other mementos to share.

"Cinco de Meow" benefits shelter

Anderson Animal Shelter's "Cinco de Meow" will be from 7 to 10:30 p.m. May 9 at Carmina's Mexican Restaurant, 1055 N. Randall Road, Elgin.

The evening will feature a Mexican hors d'oeuvres buffet, margaritas, music by Alejandro Urzagaste, a performance by Reflejo Latino Dance group and raffles.

Tickets cost $40 in advance and $50 at the door. Proceeds will benefit Anderson Animal Shelter, which provides temporary housing for about 3,400 homeless or abandoned pets each year. Anderson Animal Shelter is passionately committed not only to providing shelter to animals that are in need, but also to eliminating the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals, and doing everything in its power to help curb pet overpopulation through its spay/neuter efforts.
