Time to chill out, Arlington Heights
I was surprised to see yet another story on Arlington Heights residents whelping about yet another grave injustice. This time it was about maple trees on South Gibbons Avenue.
Best I could tell, ComEd, with city approval, determined these trees to be potential power line hazards. Letters were sent to residents alerting them to the planned trimming/removal of these trees. Disturbed citizens say the letters were unclear. If these trees (on city property) were so precious to these citizens why did they not push the panic button then?
One resident claims to still be mourning over her tree five years after it was removed. Worse yet your editors deemed this "big story" front page material. Whatever.
It's always something with Arlington Heights residents. The 4th of July sidewalk controversy, the big new custom homes spoiling their quaint neighborhoods, noise/crowd problems with Frontier Days, restaurant/bar zoning issues, etc.
Arlington Heights is a nice town. I have friends and acquaintances' who live in AH and I frequent the city's restaurants and stores on a regular basis. That said, AH citizens have gotten a bit full of themselves. Sorry, your homes are nice and your city services are great but this isn't the North Shore. Sorry. My advice to AH's whining citizenry? Chill out, your problems aren't that important.
