Conference champions: The seventh-grade girls at Millburn School in Wadsworth recently won the Lakes Region Conference Championship.

The Mustangs, who finished the regular season a perfect 11-0 record, were seeded No. 1 in the conference tournament.

In the quarterfinals the girls played the Alden-Hebron Giants. After a slow start, the Mustangs won 25-8. In the semifinal, Millburn took on the Johnsburg Wildcats White squad. The Mustangs came away with a 25-14 win. In the finals, the girls were matched against the Big Hollow Warriors, a team they had faced two days earlier to close out the regular season. The Mustangs walked away with a 23-9 victory and the tournament championship.

The Mustangs trailed twice all season in conference games, each time when the opponent scored the first basket of the game. Millburn concluded their conference season at 14-0. Dating back to last year, the girls boast a conference record of 21-0.

Cheerleading

Team openings: The CCA Titans competitive all-star cheerleading teams are open for the 2008-09 season to all girls entering kindergarten through 12th grade. Previous experience is welcome, but not required. The Titans maintain a no-cut policy for girls entering kindergarten through ninth grade, so everyone in that age group will be placed on a team.

CCA teams will be formed at the end of May and practice starts in June. Two clinics, one in April and one in May, will be offered for girls interested in improving their skills before next season.
