Man arrested on drug charges in Carpentersville
Carpentersville's gang and drug unit found cocaine, marijuana and a loaded gun when it searched a home and garage at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, officials said.
Efren Conejo, 33, of 8 Pine St., Carpentersville, was charged with delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a gun without a firearm owner's identification card, police said.
Police said they had purchased cocaine from Conejo several times before in a restaurant on Carpentersville's east side.
Police records indicate the purchases included 14.65 grams on March 13, 3.12 grams on March 14 and 2.41 grams on April 8.
Carpentersville police said they recovered Thursday 19.94 grams of cocaine and 6.50 grams of marijuana from Conejo's home.
They also found a .22-caliber pistol in Conejo's garage.
Police and Kane County prosecutors asked for a high bond in court Friday because Conejo said he was an illegal immigrant and was considered a high flight risk.
Bond was set at $30,000 with a preliminary hearing date of May 2 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
Conejo was unable to post bond and remains in the Kane County jail where a hold from Immigration and Customs Enforcement is being sought.
