Live near the water year-round if you want

Many Chicagoans who remember traveling to Lake County as children for a day or a week on the Chain O' Lakes have found that these trips evoked a lifelong love for the water and a desire to live a nautical lifestyle.

The single-family, maintenance-free Cottages of Newport Cove are providing the increasingly rare opportunity to own a newly constructed home in the waterfront community of Newport Cove on beautiful Bluff Lake, one of the Chain O' Lakes.

The Cottages, which offer first-floor masters and a home designed for casual living, provide a luxurious harbor for a nautical lifestyle.

Residents will delight in the well-equipped new marina with abundant boat slips, the scenic lakefront park plus walking and cart paths meandering through attractive open space areas.

"The Cottages at Newport Cove are designed especially for empty-nesters and other buyers who are seeking carefree living in the resort environment they have always dreamed of," said Susanne Tauke, president of New American Homes, the developer of the Cottages. "In addition, families who would like a weekend home close to Chicago or Milwaukee will find the Cottages a luxurious maintenance-free alternative within an hour's drive of their primary homes.

Just 31 single-family, cluster-style Cottages are planned for Newport Cove, a master-planned community of 67 homes that also includes custom single-family homes.

Forty percent of the community is dedicated to open space, highlighted by the eight-acre waterfront park with a stone pavilion, outdoor kitchen and restrooms. The new marina features low-maintenance docks supplied with water and electricity and built to accommodate shore stations. Abundant boat slips ensure that each resident can have two or three, if desired, a rare opportunity since the Army Corps of Engineers has mandated that no new docks can be built on the Chain O' Lakes.

The Cottages include three floor plans, two of which are ranches with full basements while the third design is a two-story Cape Cod with a first-floor master bedroom with a full basement. The two-story Stillwater has received a Gold Key Award from the Home Builders Association of Greater Chicago. Key Awards are the highest honors given by the homebuilding industry for excellence in neighborhood planning and home design.

The Cottages range from 1,670 to 2,218 square feet, with two to three bedrooms plus dens and tech centers per plan, two or 2½ baths, designer kitchens, full basements with nine-foot walls and garages large enough for two cars plus a golf cart.

Buyers may make extensive personalizing changes to the homes, assisted by the expert New American Homes staff Prices start in the mid-$300,000s and two model homes are open for viewing. Walk-out and look-out basements are available on the rolling terrain.

New American Homes is also building some of the custom homes at Newport Cove. Custom home sites are available, including waterfront locations for homes of 2,500 to 4,200 square feet, graded for walk-out basements and priced from $375,000. Estate home sites, located just off the water, can accommodate homes from 2,200 to 3,500 square feet, with prices starting at $120,000. Strict architectural standards ensure the beauty and architectural harmony of the community.
