Sugar Grove raises fines for violating ordinances
The village of Sugar Grove has raised its fines for offenses ranging from parking near a fire hydrant to a second possession of marijuana. The village board voted to raise the fines earlier this month.
The stiffer fines come at a time when Sugar Grove Police are beginning a program that targets adults buying alcohol for minors.
Effective Thursday, the fine for a first offense of unlawful consumption or possession of alcohol by a minor increases $20 to $160. The fine for a second offense will be $225.
Stiffer fines will also be put in place for marijuana use.
Currently those charged for possession of marijuana under a village ordinance are fined $60.
The new fines will be $200 for a first offense of possession of marijuana and $275 for a second offense.
The fine for possession of drug paraphernalia for a first offense will be raised to $200 from $175. A second offense of possession of drug paraphernalia will be $275.
