Police: Elgin felon had loaded gun under couch

A 22-year-old Elgin man may be headed back to prison because police say they found a loaded handgun under his couch.

Anthony R. Selio of 461 S. Belmont St., Unit 3, was charged with possession of a weapon by a felon and possession of a gun without a firearm owner's identification card, police said.

When Selio answered the door at 5:49 p.m. Wednesday for his parole compliance check, his parole agent was standing there with three Elgin police detectives.

The detectives had a search warrant because they had received a tip that Selio had a gun in his possession, police said.

Under his couch, the detectives found a loaded 9 mm semiautomatic handgun, according to reports.

Selio was paroled on May 8, 2007, after being convicted of possession of a stolen vehicle.

Police said Selio was ineligible to possess a gun or a firearm owner's card because he was a convicted felon.

Selio is being held in the Kane County jail.
