Briefs: Guilty in Aurora shooting
A 26-year-old Aurora man is guilty of attempted murder and other offenses in a July 4, 2006, shooting that led to a large police chase in Aurora. Cevin Y. Stanford was convicted Friday by Kane County Judge Grant Wegner in the shooting of three teenagers. Stanford faced a bench trial earlier this month. Police said Stanford and another man opened fire on the teenagers and drove off. The pair was later chased by police. He faces a minimum 26-year prison term when he is sentenced June 13. Stanford also is awaiting a trial in an unrelated May 2004 slaying.

St. Charles North High School presents "Oklahoma!" at 7:30 tonight and 2 p.m. Sunday at the school, 255 Red Gate Road, St. Charles. Admission is free to senior citizens, $5 for students and $7 for adults.
Torsk dinner today
Sons of Norway Polar Star Lodge will have its 45th annual all-you-can-eat torsk dinner from 3:30 to 7 p.m. today at the Beecher Building, 908 Game Farm Road, Yorkville. Torsk is a type of cod. Cost is $12 for those 11 and older. The menu will include boiled fish, boiled potatoes with plain or onion butter, peas and carrots, coleslaw, limpa bread, cake, coffee and milk.
Jazz bands to play
The West Aurora High School Jazz Bands will perform at Aurora University at 7 tonight in the Crimi Auditorium, 407 S. Calumet Ave. in Aurora. Tickets are $5.
Used book sale in Batavia
The Friends of the Batavia Public Library will continue its annual used book sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Most items cost between 50 cents and $2, excluding signed books, first editions and rare books. Also included in the sale are CDs, videos, DVDs, books on tape, records, puzzles and software. The library is located at 10 S. Batavia Ave.
Youth musician auditions:
The Fox Valley Academy of Music Performance will hold auditions for the coming season of Fox Valley Youth Symphony Orchestras and associated ensembles today and Sunday and May 3 and 4. Judson choir concert

Batavia scholarship offers
The Batavia Bulldogs Sports Boosters will award four $1,000 scholarships to seniors at Batavia High School this year. To be eligible, students have to have participated in sports for three years, including their senior year, and have a 3.0 grade-point average. Applications can be picked up at the high school guidance office or athletic office and have to be returned by Wednesday.
