Man found guilty in sex assault
A Carpentersville man has been convicted of sexually assaulting a woman sleeping on his couch late last year, authorities said Wednesday.
Stanley A. Meyer, 32, faces between four and 15 years in prison in the Dec. 23, 2007, attack, Kane County prosecutors said.
Meyer, of the 100 block of Pueblo Road, was accused of sexually assaulting a houseguest while she slept on his sofa, prosecutors said.
The woman was able to run out of Meyer's house after the assault and, in her bare feet, went to her own home and called police.
Meyer later told police he was unaware the victim was awake and apologized for his actions, prosecutors said.
Meyer has been jailed on $100,000 bond and charged with criminal sexual assault since his arrest not long after the crime was reported.
He was found guilty of the Class 1 felony offense on Tuesday after a bench trial before Judge Grant Wegner.
Meyer is scheduled to be sentenced May 16.
