Counterfeit sneakers seized from Chicago-area storage unit
Suburban Chicago police officers say they're investigating a counterfeit ring after they discovered 15,000 pairs of fake Nike sneakers in a storage unit last week.
The shoes were boxed and ready for sale when they were discovered in the south Chicago suburb of Oak Forest. Authorities say the footwear had a street value of about $750,000.
So far, no charges have been filed in the case and no one has been arrested.
But Oak Forest authorities say they believe the counterfeits were made in China and then shipped to the Midwest from either New York or Los Angeles.
The shoes likely would have been sold at flea markets or discount stores.
