Wrap: Geneva, Batavia win key WSC games

The Geneva baseball team nailed 5 home runs from 4 different players in their 19-10 win against Western Sun conference opponent Glenbard South at home Thursday.

Cory Hofstetter hit 2 home runs and finished the day 4-for-5 with 5 RBI.

"He's on," Geneva coach Matt Hahn said. "He's hitting the ball really well and very confident at the plate."

Justin Doty, Ryan Payne and Dan Rowe also hit home runs. The team finished with 16 hits.

"We are playing pretty consistent now," Hahn said.

The Vikings are 11-3 overall and 5-3 in conference.

Batavia 7, Sycamore 4: Alex Beckmann batted 3-for-3 with a double and a home run. Brian Krolikowski and Shane Holl also homered for the Bulldogs (10-4, 7-2).

West Aurora 8, Glenbard East 4: DJ Smith drilled a grand slam in the fourth, giving the Blackhawks (9-5, 3-3) the lead they would not lose. Kyle McCradic added a homer in the fifth. Chris Richter hurled 6 ½ innings for his third win.

Kaneland 21, Rochelle 5: Brian Claesson went 5-for-5 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI. Joe Gura, Tyler Dickerson and Nick Wagner all homered for Kaneland (7-4).

Boys tennis

St. Charles North 5, Lake Park 2: The North Stars stayed unbeaten in four dual meets this year. John Mittvick dropped the opening set in first singles before rallying to win the second and third.

St. Charles East 7, Larkin 0:ŒRyan McNally shut his opponent out in first singles and Jimmy Hebert won second singles 6-1, 6-0. The Saints improved to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in UEC meets.

Marmion 5, Marian 0: The Cadets won all five matches in straight sets. Tom Weiler took first singles 6-3, 6-0.

Softball

St. Charles North 1, Glenbard North 0: Brooke Jaeger scored Lisa Korth in the bottom of the sixth as the North Stars (7-2, 3-2) beat the Panthers at home. Starter Christine Truesdell won her second game.

Glenbard West 4, West Aurora 2: After winning their first 11, the Blackhawks lost their first game of the year. Devin Vaughn had 2 hits and Sam Arenkill pitched a complete game.

Kaneland 3, Yorkville 0: Mallory Huml blanked the Foxes, allowing 5 hits, while picking up her seventh win. Erica Kendrick batted 2-for-3 with a double and Lindsay Hansen had a pair of RBI for the Knights (8-2, 3-1).

Men's baseball

Waubonsee 9, College of DuPage 4:ŒThe Chiefs (13-18) trailed by three after the first but scored four in the second and three in the third. Nick Golich batted 3-for-3 and Branden Robbins had a triple and scored twice.

Women's softball

Waubonsee 17-17, Morton 0-0: Jami Swenson batted a perfect 9-for-9 over the two games. Cheryl Smick went 6-for-7 with 9 RBI and belted a grand slam in Game 2. Haley Secor pitched a no-hitter for the Chiefs (10-12) in game 2, allowing 1 walk and striking out 5.
