Man held in six random downtown Chicago assaults
A suburban Berwyn man accused of a series of random attacks on six people in downtown Chicago is being held in the Cook County jail on $500,000 bond.
His court-appointed attorney said Friday at a court hearing that 27-year-old Gregory Perdue had previously been diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Perdue was charged with six counts of aggravated battery in the attacks Wednesday evening. Among those assaulted was WLS-Channel 7 news anchor Cheryl Burton.
Prosecutors say Perdue argued with a forklift driver who he said wouldn't let him cross the street, and then apparently decided to take out his anger by punching people
Four women and two men were hurt.
