Kane Co. tax bills on the way

The average property tax bill in Kane County is going up almost 5 percent this year.

Residents will see how theirs compares to that average soon.

Tax bills will be mailed before next Thursday, Kane County Treasurer David Rickert announced this week.

And starting today, people can check their tax bill information -- and pay it for a 2.5 percent convenience fee -- online at www.kanecountytreasurer.org.

The first installment is due June 2 and the second installment is due Sept. 2.

Payment is accepted by mail, in person or online.

The treasurer's office at the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave. in Geneva, is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is a 24-hour drop box behind Building A at the Government Center.

If residents do not receive a bill by May 10, they should call the treasurer's office at (630) 232-3565 for a duplicate bill.

Residents in Elgin Township are paying the highest average tax bill in the county, followed by residents in Blackberry, Sugar Grove and Batavia townships, based on the treasurer's estimates.

Rutland Township residents will pay the least in the county, according to the estimates.

The average county tax bill is $5,163.23, an increase of 4.85 percent compared to last year's tax bill.

This year the countywide collection will be more than $1 billion for the first time.
